Hello Kitty is internationally famed for its adorable characters and whimsical world of pastel perfection. Ann Cathcart is also a kitty, but not in the traditional, feline sense. Starring in the upcoming Netflix series, “XO, Kitty,” she plays the role of Kitty, a love-struck teen who moves to the other side of the globe to attend KISS (Korean Independent School of Seoul) and, perhaps more importantly, reunite with her long-distance boyfriend. She’ll soon learn relationships are much more complicated than simply getting together for attraction’s sake—especially when you’re thousands of miles away from your friends and family.

Besides their names, what do these characters have in common? A killer sense of style, that’s what!
To commemorate the debut of the highly anticipated series, Sanrio, Forever21, and Netflix have come together to deliver a limited-edition Hello Kitty capsule collection. “Forever 21 and Sanrio collaborations have always been exceptional,” said Winnie Park, CEO at Forever 21. “We’re excited to join forces with Netflix, allowing us to engage with our customers across relevant cultural moments from fashion to film.” Based on the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” film franchise and the New York Times best-selling book series by Jenny Han, “XO, Kitty” tells a story of coming of age, romance, and adventure.

Much like Kitty’s helplessly romantic outlook, the collection is saccharine-sweet with bubblegum hues and baby blues. There’s classic Hello Kitty iconography with scarlet bows here and everyone’s favorite feline stamped there.

Academia gets a cheeky twist as a Powder Blue varsity jacket gets revamped with Maraschino Red hearts while a white knit cardigan gets cropped and decked out with Candy Pink stripes. That’s not all. Forever 21’s also dropping a black-and-white cardigan adorned with lustrous gold buttons and a pointed collar to live out your international boarding school fantasy. There are pleated miniskirts in denim and Camel-colored variations and knee-high socks in pink, black, and white with the series’ logo printed at the knee. The logo also appears on crop tops and a white tie with a satin finish.

“We’re delighted to partner with Forever 21 and Netflix on the ‘XO, Kitty” collection that celebrates friendship, kindness, and self-expression—which are values shared between Hello Kitty and Forever 21, and also key themes shown throughout the “XO, Kitty” series, said Craig Takiguchi, COO at Sanrio, Inc. “Our previous collections with Forever 21 have been a huge hit, and we’re excited to offer this collaboration for Hello Kitty and “XO, Kitty” fans ahead of the new series launch.”
You can scope out the collection starting May 4th on Forever 21’s official website.
